Today was a very busy day for the 2014 delegation, as they had three lectures, their last day of this directed study block, and a very full seminar block. The morning lecturer, Dr. Doug Brash, in his talk “How Sunlight Causes Skin Cancer – A Detective Story” spoke about the causes of skin cancer at a genetic level.

An afternoon lecture, by Ms. Lisa Grant, of Shell, discussed the architecture of deepwater oil wells, as well as the life cycle of the drilling process and the various engineering components of the oilfield.  The evening lecture, “Stem Cells – The Future of Regenerative Medicine,” by Dr. Stephen Chang of the New York Stem Cell Foundation, spoke on the future possibilities of stem cell research.

Delegates and staph are heading out on overnight trips again; next update will be the evening of July 8, 2014!
